Heavily misting this Thursday am

Okay, so I have a new recipe to post below, but I still have to dig it out. It definitely is not from any kind of light cooking cookbook, but the whole family (except W, who likes very little anyway) liked it. I can't remember what the actual name is, but we are calling them "beer taters". I'll get that up later today.

So, I've had almost two weeks to figure out how to style my new hair. This morning I did it in record time and was all set to have a good hair day. Then it was time for the bus. I thought it was going to be cold, so I wore my heavy coat. Once we got outside in the midnight darkness, I realized it wasn't cold, but misting heavily. It was too late to change coats. So, I had to put my big heavy hood up and flattened my now slightly damp hair. Oh well, at least my plants aren't drying out.

We have reached the end of an era. Now that D is working, we no longer have the babysitter. It was good while it lasted, well except for when he goofed up and let S fall asleep. I'm going through serious adult contact withdrawals. With schedules for conferences and doctors appointments M and I won't be able to get together this week or next.

Well, this is D's 3rd day shucking fish around...say that 10 times fast. He found out yesterday he will be doing about a 3 hour shift on Saturday's. I think he said Friday's would be short day as well, so I'm guessing he will be closer to the 32 hour week than the 40 hour week. He said he can take anything they throw at him for the next 6 months until he finds something else. Of course in last nights paper the county had a job listing for doing exactly the same thing he's been doing for the last 26 years. Hmm, wonder if the county is as bad about the "good ol boy" syndrome like the cities are. The county job would be better for most benefits...but the fish place we evidently get fish at cost. That's a tough one...

W has conferences today. I don't really expect any surprises...but that's kind of how surprises happen. I haven't heard from his teacher since about a week after she called to tell me he was the bathroom ogre. When I emailed her back the next week, she said he hadn't been scaring any of the other kids as they walked in. Good grief.

H is starting to talk a little more. At baby group I swear he said walking as we were doing the hallway walk. This morning when he woke up he asked where dada was. I said he was at work and I swear he said work...including the k!! Of course when I tried to get him to say it again he just started picking his nose. And of course we are getting into the cooler nights and people are firing up their wood stoves and fireplaces. So, H will have to start getting his nightly benedryl cocktail. Last night he kept waking me up with his congestion.

They came to replace our garage roof Tuesday. Boy, talk about wham, bam, thank you ma'am. They were in and out in about 2 hours. I think we counted about 8 guys and 3 trucks. Of course if they had managed to fit us in a week or so ago it would have been better. As they left they said that once we get a warm day it will seal down. Well honesty, what are the odds of that now. It's not something we didn't already know, and if it all blows off next week they'll still come out and replace it at no cost. So, the only one who may be upset is Dorothy the wicked witch to the north as our new shingles shred her greenhouses that were built without permits, are not up to code for a business and are not being taxed as well as most likely are not insured. But our berries aren't going through the fence!!!

So, H has a new favorite song. He loves to dance around to the music in his head. For the longest time it was Rockabye Your Bear by the Wiggles. Well, the other day I was checking out the music on Monkeybugs site and H was in here. He went nuts when Ma Na Ma Na came on. And it seems his favorite part is not the nice sweet part. It's the part where the other guys is going off on his own little tangent. I suppose I'm not surprised.

I got a new shipment of my Gevalia the other day. Can you believe the seal was cracked on one of my Peruvian Organics!!?? So I called and they are sending out a new one. Okay, I'm sorry, but if you are paying almost $8 plus shipping on one of those little packages, it should still be sealed when it arrives. We had just opened a large bag D brought back from Costa Rica, so it's not like we could sit down and drink the Gevalia coffee right away.

We found a Halloween costume for H at Target. I was kind of looking for a stuffed bull or horse to cut in half and sew to him (well, to some sweats or something, not actually to him). When I saw a horse and rider costume in the add last week, I figured save the time and effort and just buy it. Now I need to hit the second hand store for some cowboy boots to cut up for W's costume. He wants to be a rodeo clown. He is going to wear a pair of D's old wranglers and an old shirt. He has some old sneakers that we can sew cowboy boot tops to and last year I picked up a straw hat off clearance. They should look cute for the costume contests to the north and south of us. W has his costumes figured out for the next 3 years, but I don't know what they are. I think two of them are Star Wars. (Good grief, I remember the lines at the movies when that came out in high school and now my kid is a Star Wars freak.)

So, now I have to go. I know I need to get a lot of things done today. If I don't, life will be chaos by Monday when W goes back to school.

Hope everyone has a good week.
