Okay, so I think Peteshaus is the only one to get full credit for first update today. MandM did hers last night, which I understand with the trip out of town this morning. I see comments from Monkeybug, but no post on her website (although it may be there by the time I run out of wind...) And Mini Mehe and Puppy1bug2...well, A for effort, but I'm anxiously awaiting more info than the fact that they have more exiting things to do than me this morning...
Well, I haven't even thought about a recipe yet for this week. I'll have something by the end of the day though.
Hmmm, moments. I must say the most recent moment that has changed my life was when I stood too close to the black hole of cub scout volunteering and...slurppp...was sucked right in. When we had W, we signed up for a baby. We certainly didn't sign up for a cub scout. And the worst part, our neighbor says he will turn into a....TEENAGER...gasp!!
Special moments. Well, I guess if you count lots of consecutive moments, I would say my first date with D. We watched a beautiful bright colored sunset in the rose garden and then watched a huge orange moon rise.
H had a wonderful Tuesday. We met MandM and S for lunch at Rogue. They also brought some friends, so there was another little girl there. It had been so long since we had to take the kids I'm out of practice. I totally forgot to take his man bag with pre-dining snacks and old Happy Meal toys. And even worse, things have just been so hectic around here that after getting to baby group I realized I had no diapers in my purse and no diaper bag in my rig...and had to make it through group and lunch with the diaper he was wearing. He did fine though. He fell asleep on the way home. I think it was just a little overtaxing for him to have two gorgeous girls to stare at. I actually had to wake him from the nap so that we could go to W's dentist appointment. He was in a good mood for that. He actually sat in the chair and said Ahh every time she asked him to. His two year molars are finally looking like they are coming in good She was able to get a good look at the back of his alveolar ridge. He has some deep folds under his right nostril, but she couldn't actually see a hole. She was certain that if she probed, she most likely would find a hole, but she was doubtful a popcorn kernel would fit. Sooo, that means he actually put the popcorn up his nose rather than it pushing through the roof of his mouth. I am actually really excited about how well it's closed up. I think the worst he will do in the way of parlor tricks will be shooting milk out his nose, but what boy doesn't do that?? I had visions of him being suspended from school for running spaghetti through that hole and out his nose to impress the girls. I guess he's just going to have to find something else to do.
So, W did well at the dentist too. She gave him a $5 gift card to the video store for having no cavities. I just can't believe how wiggly and giggly he is for his dentist appointments.
Okay, I suspected I was going to be in trouble when in pre-school W somehow ended up with 2 wives. Then I was more certain when in kindergarten there was the daily battle on the bus between him and another boy and a girl over who got to sit in the middle. Well, I'm just shaking my head after last night. We took W and the neighbor boy who is also in scouts down to sell popcorn in front of the store. They did very well at taking turns and being great kids. Then it happened. This thin woman in a tight lace dress and great updo (like, what was she doing here, dressed like that at 5pm on a Wednesday??) came in. Well, the boys have been told only approach people on their way out. As soon as the door close behind her these two third graders started fighting over who was going to sell her popcorn on her way out. D and I just looked at each other and tried not to pee our pants as we tried not to laugh. The boys even tried to get the other to try to sell to everyone that came out before her just so as not to miss her. And of course, wouldn't you know it, she went out the other door and skirted clear around the parking lot to avoid them. Of course they saw her and just couldn't believe that she had gotten away.
So, D is still flinging fish around. It's such a strange schedule. He goes in anywhere from 6am to 9am. Today he wasn't supposed to go in until 9am and they called about 630 and wanted him to come in. It's a job, but I certainly don't think he's totally bonded with it. We need more good juju for that county job. It closes next week, so hopefully he will get that job. I mean seriously, it's doing the same thing he has done for the last 26 years and he would get into PERS for a good second retirement. I'm very hopeful that it may work out. I mentioned D applying for that position to one of the other scout leaders. I had mentioned to her that I knew a boy scout leader worked for the county and maybe D's scout connection would help with the good ol boy system. She said it actually might as this other leader evidently is in the HR dept. Of course if he is going to leave the fish flinging business, that really cuts down on the time he has to pick up a new GPS and claim it as a work expense. His old one just does lat/long. I think he can buy maps for it, but why would you if you could get a new one for the same price as the maps. We just live in a disposable society.
So I think summer is officially over. I had our furnace set for 65ยบ for the summer. I has been kicking on in the mornings. I don't have to open the windows every morning and close them by 10 anymore to keep the house comfortable. I will miss the fresh air. Of course the totally up side is that we are now past the spider invasion. I must admit, the spraying the fogger around the base of the house like Mini Mehe's hubby suggested really did cut down on spiders. We had far fewer this year, we (actually just me) just had more unfortunate encounters that we normally do. I hope to never have to do the naked spider dance with my running tooth brush again while my pets look on. I definitely don't ever want to do the OMG, there's a huge bug tunneling into my ear to eat my brain dance either. I just don't get why my dog seems to enjoy these dances so much. Yes, the colder weather is such a nice thing. Before you know it, we will be watching the weather reports to see if W will miss school for rain days over the next few months. Gotta love run off combined with high tides. Then it will be time to watch for the signals of spring. That would be the quick little snow storm that turns our steeper than a cows face driveway into a sheet of ice. Thank God for golf shoes. I think I used them for about a week to take W down to the bus. After golf shoe season comes dog slug season. Our poor old dog. She is so lazy we have actually had to pick those huge slugs off her before she comes inside. Ahh, the changing of the seasons. Always something to look forward to...
So, I'm thinking today between cub scout phone calls I will put up Halloween decorations. I can't believe we haven't done them yet.
Hope everyone has a good week.

What could be better than sitting in a deck chair drinking coffee and chatting with the gals???
