D's parents are here for a couple days. They are done with the camp hosting, museum thing for the summer and heading south for the winter. I think they are here a couple days and then go to D's sister's for a couple days then on to warmer places.
W and I both picked up our new glasses this week. W picked new frames. They look real nice, kind of a gun metal gray, short, wide frame. Of course the first day he wore them to school the kids made fun of him. That mystifies me, how could they be fine with the awful BC glasses he had last year and not like the boy version of Sara Palin glasses?? Kids.
My glasses on the other hand, just horrible! I re-used my frames and just ordered new lenses. I opted not to do the soft contacts again because they were just too uncomfortable. I have the horrible astigmatism on one eye and not the other, so one contact was thicker than the other. Then you have the whole issue with the toric lens having to be in your eye a certain way to correct for the astigmatism. Well, it would get turned a little and stick, then I couldn't see to drive until I added drops. Big pain. So, after D gets another job and hopefully we get insurance that covers them, I'm going back to the gas permeable rigids. In the meantime I'm down to just glasses. So, long story longer. You know how they tell you that you have 60 day to decide if they have given you the proper correction or they'll re-do the lenses? Well, I've always thought, right, you would know right away. As soon as I got home I came in to check the email...and my monitor wasn't square. It was short on the left side an tall on the right. So I called and they said that my frames just need a little tweaking so to come back in. Well, that night we were at a scout meeting and I was standing and writing something on a notepad for a parent and one of the kids bumped the table. When I looked off the notepad and to the table top, I was certain that the legs on that side of the table were starting to fold and freaked out. I just couldn't understand why all the parents didn't realize all of the popcorn was going to slide off the table as it tipped over. Then I took my glasses off and it was level. So freaky. Well, the doctor assured me that my brain would eventually get used to that, but I wasn't convinced. By yesterday though things were starting to get a little better. The monitor is almost square again. Tables aren't quite level yet, but I'm not reaching for things to keep them from falling to the floor anymore. And they must be helping because the fuzzy spot in the lower left vision of my right eye seems much better. That ended up just being my brain getting used to the fact that I no longer have the mild astigmatism in that eye. My poor brain. It's just having to work too hard. It needs a break.
So, more good juju. D has put in for a county job, good benefits. They are also advertising for the resort south of us, not so good retirement benefits, but travel benefits. I think he's really getting tired of the retired thing.
W has gone a couple weeks now without getting in trouble at school. The first week he was just being noisy and goofing off after he was done using the bathroom. The second week he was playing with the water (I can only hope in the sink) and paper towels and being noisy again. Well, the third week was not the charm for the school. He started hiding behind the door and jumping out and scaring kids. Good grief. My kid is the bathroom ogre who is going to be responsible for numerous kids wetting their pants!! But, like in the past, once the teacher told us the problem and we talked to him, he has gotten better. Either we are that scary, or he just really wanted me to keep my end of the bargain and show him a new card trick. Other than that, he's doing great in school. And last night was the first night he didn't sleep with the bowling pin that all the kids signed at his birthday bowling party. He is just maturing so fast.
H is still working on the potty training. If it wasn't so inappropriate, I'd have the perfect photo op. I think he is going to be a thespian (or maybe a construction worker). He has to stage things just so before he sits on his potty chair. If he can find it, he seems to like wearing the hard hat that D brought home when he retired. In addition to that he has lighting requirements. We have 3 of those tap lights that we haven't found a place to use yet. Well, H has to place those in a semicircle in front of him and turn them on and even reposistions them. Then it's not uncommon for him to make a big production of grunting, giggling and straining just for the heck of it. Of course sometimes he's just a little boring and reads a picture book.
So, we picked up a ton of popcorn for scouts last Friday. Of course when I ordered it we only had 4 kids. Now we have about 10, so we should be getting more popcorn today. I will be glad when the sale is over. It does look like we have a leader for one group, but now we've lost a leader for another group that did have a leader. I guess one step forward, one back is better than if it were two back. I do think I'm starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel as far as having more than just the two of us as leaders. It does seem that we have some key parents that even if they don't step up to be leaders, they will be a great asset to the pack.
T must still be ranting about Monkeybug coming up with the blog idea. Peteshaus is going to have to take some of the applecrisp over and help her get her blog going.
Well, it is time for me to do some things before meeting M for our Luau lunch. D and thought it was hilarious when Monkeybug suggested the name No Ho's may be a slam that the owners ex-wife was no longer his business partner. I'm not sure how I feel about M wondering if they would let us in though....We are both just glad that D is willing to watch the two kids while we have girl time.
Hope everyone has a good week.
