The day after Christmas

We had snow on Christmas. Well, that may excite some people.

So, we have had a weird weather week. And as I'm writing this I hear the wind picking up. I hope I can finish before our power is knocked out. (check out my weather pictures in my favorite links...) I think we ended up with about 6 or so inches of snow at one point. That actually lasted a few days. Then we either had rain or 40ยบ temps...or both. Of course W had his second ear infection in about a month and spent those two days barely clinging to life. By the time he felt better, most of the good snow was gone. That threw him into another day or so of depression. But then we had more snow. Not as much, and not really worth playing in. H really didn't seem to care one way or the other. If you were outside, he was happy, but if you came in he followed without complaining.

The weirdest part was the little micro climates. If we drove just 10 miles to the north, it would still be snowing and 10 miles to the south the rain had scoured all the snow away. Then if you headed 20 miles inland there was no power, and still isn't.

H was supposed to have a post surgery follow up on Tuesday. Of course that whole city is paralyzed from the storm. Chains have been required in town for most of a week. So, we went to Chuckie Cheese instead. It was H's first time. Totally different than W. When it was time to go, he didn't seem to mind at all.

I'm so depressed. We had to cancel the scout party on Saturday. I think we have it rescheduled for Monday night. Of course they will still be eating pancakes and sausage, since it's already purchased. I will have to re-make the donut hole trees and mini snowman donuts. Other than that we should be set. It sounds like Santa will still come. I guess the boys can ask for what they want next year. I just hope they don't complain about what they didn't get...

So, or Christmas was nice. We had the Norad Santa tracker as well as Goggle Earth running most of the day. I don't remember how early Christmas Eve W started in on wanting to open presents, but it was early. He didn't complain too much about clearing the table when we told him we wouldn't open anything until it was done. Both boys are spoiled. W ended up with an RC Quad, some Lego Star Wars kit and a bunch of other stuff. H ended up with a King Arthur's castle (a cool boy version of a doll house with trap doors and secret passages), a Thomas Lego set and other things. W got him the Tater's of the Lost Ark potato head. Christmas morning they dug into their stocking bright and early. W ended up with the ultimate light saber and H got the Morgans Mine Thomas set from Santa. And of course they both got all kinds of little trinkets on top of that. Like I said, spoiled. Anyway, we did manage to get all 4 of our critters in one shot. This will probably be the cats last Christmas. I mean really, she's 16 years old and never was all that friendly...

Our weather was strange again on Christmas Eve. As we were eating dinner we saw a huge flash out the dining room window. That was followed by a huge rumbling clap of thunder. And of course that was immediately followed by our weeny dog, you know, the 80 some pound fur ball, trying to climb to safety in the bath tub. I must say, that was much better than her suddenly thinking she was a lap dog during dinner...

We haven't talked about what we are doing for New Years yet. D has the day off and doesn't work a job where he stands duty anymore. Maybe we will let the kids stay up till midnight. Our neighbors usually have a family gathering complete with lots of noise at midnight. Their son is home from college this week, so I'm sure they will be setting things up soon. Generally they attach a tarp to the back of the house as a make shift shanty town awning. Then they sit under it a BBQ oysters. Of course there has been more than once when looking out the kitchen window I have seen them actually doing a bon fire in the Weber...right under the eves of the house. I always expect to see some great light show one New Years Eve. Anyway, we never get that carried away. D and I might have some nice tawny port and W may still be awake and can have some sparkling cider. W I'm sure will have been asleep for quite some time by then.

We hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas/New Year week. I look forward to reading every ones blog to see how they are doing.

You have been having some weird weather in your part of the world. We have just been having snow. A lot of snow, like over two feet of snow, so if W wants to play in it, you need to come visit. G was down with a double middle ear infection and a sinus infection that she brought back from the cruise with her. She is better now, but pissed I won't let her play outside in the 20* weather and snow. Santa spoiled both of my kids as well. He should be shot for sending Legos. I have stepped on and knowed over so many pieces I think I am going to book a trip to the ER next year ahead of time to get it over with. Glad to hear you are all doing well. We miss you guys like crazy.

I highly doubt that I get more oohs and ahhs then you! The beauty of a blog is that I only have to post pictures of the things that turn out! (trust me you didn't want any part of my fancy Christmas Cauliflower- I didn't know it was possible for cauliflower to curdle!)
Leavenworth is soooo worth the trip! It was hands down the most Christmasy Christmas I have ever had. We rented a cabin for a week (it was just under 1,200) so I don't know about hotel rooms, but the cabins do book fast! If we are ever lucky enough to get stationed in the Pacific Northwest again, it will be our annual Christmas destination!
