Is summer over yet???

Okay, is it wrong to wish for the peace and quiet of the school year at this point??

I have to say, H is having Miss S withdrawals. He gets sooo excited when there are new photos on FB. He really liked the one of the two of them the night before she left. Although, I have to say, he had his normal mischievous look on his face and also looked like he had his hand in his pants...But Miss S sure looked like she absolutely adored him

W just finished up a week of VBS today. He and H have been doing the sissy slap fight, he's hitting, he's pinching, he won't share BS pretty much since we got back home. Arghhh. And the worst part is that H will finally leave W alone and go amuse himself or start to wind down for a much needed nap. Then W just can't live with that and has to go start the whole cycle over again. Did I mention Arghhh!!??

Anyway, the paper ran both articles I submitted for scouts today. There was the one for day camp, which included H in his tiger suit with all the new first graders. The other was the photo taken before the parade with both boys in it. And me being a little slow on the uptake...I missed a great opportunity to put our district persons phone number in for those who might think scouts sounded like fun. Oh well, next time.

Next week is once again devoted to scouts. We have our first pack meeting in what seems like forever. Then we have 4 Webelos going to horse camp next week. So, I am telling them to bring all of their stuff they plan to bring, except for medicine and shower stuff, and we will go through the check list. Then all they need to bring on the morning of departure is their shower stuff and any medicine. Oh, and I'm going to be totally mean and say no dvd, mp3, ds type stuff. We are going to spend the 3 hours driving time singing scout songs and playing car games. And if that doesn't work, I'll be practicing my knots...on them. Oh, no, I probably won't tie them up, but I may threaten. Anyway, W has picked out his favorites from day camp...going on a burple hunt, boom-chick-boom, bug juice, and cub scout wetspurs to name a few. We will probably be the only webelos who know any songs up there...

The following week we are planning our fish hatchery tour up the river. It should be interesting. The other day D saw a bear come out across the highway right at the hatchery. However, when I talked to the guy from the hatchery to see if there had been any issues with bears, he said they are in the area (duh) but he has never seen one. Gee, that would have been exciting to see a bear with a bunch of kids between 1st and 5th grade...

H starts school again on Monday. He only goes one day a week for about a month, then he's off until fall. He's picked up a second speech session a week through summer as well. Of course we end up canceling one or the other for some scout thing or something the therapist has scheduled. They had a student working with his normal therapist at the end of the school year. Well, once she graduated, she decided to stay through the summer. So, he has the normal one for one day and the new one for the second day. I'm sure it's good for him to experience two different styles. But it's like a flashback to the NICU when we'd have to train new nurses when the regular ones had their days off. She gets really frustrated when he won't work on what she has decided to work on that day. This week she wanted to work of the F sound, and he flat out wouldn't do it. She started in on the "why is he acting this way?" "does he get PT/OT?" "his behavior is very concerning...". I told her that I notice him getting really frustrated if he's trying to tell me something and I can't understand him (duh) and that maybe since he has a hard time with F's with his huge under bite, he might be kind of afraid to try knowing it probably won't be perfect. So, we let him pick out toy animals and he was able to do the F sound in the middle of elephant just fine. She's young and I'm sure doesn't have kids of her own. H will have her trained on how kids behave by the end of summer...

So, we got a new DVR box today. Charter is such a pain. Several month ago we had trouble with no sound on some channels. Then at the top and bottom of the hour, some of those channels would get sound back and others would loose sound. Plus, they re-worked all of their channels and all of sudden we weren't getting channels we were paying for. When I called the woman from India, she told me we were getting everything we were supposed to and totally missed that I was saying the box wasn't working correctly. Well, it was stuff like DIY and some of the channels with freaky shows, unfortunately not the redneck wedding channel. Anyway, our power was knocked out Monday for several hours and when it came back on we were missing sound on some channels and not others...like basically whatever we wanted to watch or DVR didn't have sound. So, when I called, they said they could come out sometime next week. Yesterday we took the box in to the local office and tried to just swap it, but they didn't have any there, so she was able to get us an appointment this morning. The first thing the guy said when he looked at our old Moxi box was "uhhhhhhh.....how long have you had THAT box?" He said they were phasing those out and asked if I wanted a new one, well duh!! So, now we have a new box, but we now know that our TV sucks. Evidently Sony and Vizio don't work well with charters HD boxes. So, for our network channels...if we want the picture to fit the screen, we have to set it for TV. But, if we want to watch the HD channels, we have to set it for some HDMI1 or something like that, but then the network channels have a black band around them and don't fit the screen. Whatever. If the picture is small I will just use binoculars. I just don't want to go to the trouble of learning to lip read to know what's going on. I'll tell you, it was pretty pathetic seeing my family try to watch Jeopardy with no sound the other night...

So, now I am off to make merlot-co tacos for dinner. Sounds fancy, but it's simple. After I rinse the fat off the browned GB, I reduce some merlot (or I've used beer or whatever wine) into the meat. Then I just added diced onions and regular taco seasoning and finish off like normal.

Hope everyone has a good week....and more update their blogs....
